A Little About Us

Matt Tures Sons Nursery was established in 1924 on 15 acres of land in Des Plaines, Illinois. The company was initially involved in landscaping, retail and wholesale sales. By 1937 the nursery had grown to 25 acres. Two years later Matt Tures passed away and his two sons, Andrew and John, took over the business. The business discontinued its landscape operation in 1940 and took a step toward expansion with the purchase of 100 acres in Roselle, Illinois, in 1953. In 1955, the retail segment of the business was discontinued.

In 1981 ownership was transferred to John “JM” Tures, George Tures and John “JB” Branch. In 1993 John Branch left the business due to health reasons. Bob and Jeff Tures acquired ownership of George Tures’ share of the business in 1995. Matt Tures Sons again relocated, due to urban sprawl, this time to Harvard, Illinois, in 1998.

Propagation, which ended in the 1960’s, began again in 1998 to ensure that plentiful supplies of true to name, quality liners were available every year. Liners are also available for purchase from the propagation department.

Plant introductions from Matt Tures Sons Nursery include: Euonymus alatus ‘Turesi’ (Tures Burning Bush), Malus sargentii ‘Tures Red’ (Tures Red Sargent Crabapple) Tilia cordata ‘Turesi’ (Tures Littleleaf Linden) and Sorbus acuparia ‘Blackhawk’ & ‘Cherokee’ (Blackhawk & Cherokee Mt. Ash).
